1001 things women should know about cars
We couldn't fit them all in at once, but we've got the answers to some niggling questions: What do I do if my car starts to skid? Who should I call if I lose my car keys? Which is the best sat-nav to buy? Send us your questions and we'll answer those too.

Send your questions to evecars questions and we’ll publish the best questions, with answers.

What should I do if I get into a skid?

Blame the slippery road surface if you like, but skids are almost always a result of driver error. To keep control, slow down, particularly in wet or icy conditions.

If you still get caught out, first, try not to panic: sudden moves won't help. Put your left foot on the clutch and ease your right foot off the accelerator or brake. Don't be tempted to floor the brake – this will make things worse.

Which direction do you want to travel? Turn the steering wheel that way and when the wheels regain grip on the road you'll be back in control.

What should I do if I lose my car keys and have no spare key?

You’ll need to prove that you own the car with the registration documents, which should be in your name.

Take this proof of ownership, together with some form of identity and the VIN number of the car (the 17-character series of letters and numbers that will be on the registration document and may also be on the windscreen) to a dealership and they’ll be able to provide you with a new key – at a price.

It’s likely to cost £100 at the very least to get new keys, and could cost several hundred.

Alternatively, you can try a reputable locksmith for a new set. Visit the Master Locksmiths Association’s website at www.locksmiths.co.uk to find one in your area.

Which is the best sat-nav to get with a budget of £200?

To guide you through the maze of satellite-navigation tools on the market we've sneaked a look at What Car?'s sat-nav supertest results.

If you have between £150 and £200 to spend, we'd probably go for the TomTom One 3rd Edition. The unit we tested was the basic model, priced at £133.30 (Halfords.com).

However, spend closer to £200 and you'll get a bigger screen, as well as other options such as traffic monitoring and full European maps.

Another unit worth looking at is the Medion GoPal E3410, priced at £189.99 (Medionshop.co.uk).

It's not quite up to the high standards set by the TomTom in some areas, but it does come packed full of features, including traffic monitoring, an MP3 player, Bluetooth connectivity and European maps.
